Webscreener “The Card Counter” Adds New Twist to Early Movie Leaks * TorrentFreak

The pirate movie season started early this year. After the leak of two Netflix films a few days ago, apparently from festival screens, a âwebscreenerâ copy of âThe Card Counterâ has just been released online. All of the films are linked to the pirate broadcast group EVO, which appears to have multiple sources.
Historically, pirated copies of motion pictures often start leaking to pirate sites around Christmas.
This year, Christmas has come early for the pirates. A few days ago, two screening copies of the Netflix films “The Power of the Dog” and “The Guilty” were leaked online, ahead of their scheduled premieres.
EVO
The releases are linked to the EVO hacking group, which also leaked the first filters early last year. The copies were taken from so-called “web screens” which EVO claimed came from a film festival.
The name of the festival was not mentioned, but the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) was a potential candidate, as it screened both films. TIFF did not respond to our request for comment, but shortly after the leaks first appeared, TIFF began sending out DMCA advisories targeting the leaks.
While there is no confirmation that the leaks go back to the TIFF filters, a new leak shows that – even if it did – EVO also has more sources.
Screener “The Card Counter”
A few hours ago, EVO released a screening copy of Paul Schrader’s film “The Card Counter”. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month and is currently in theaters.

As shown in the screenshot above, the video is clearly marked as a screener and notes that the film is âProperty of Focus Featuresâ, which is the official distributor. The release notes do not include any specific information about the origins of this screener but EVO thanks “Visionary” as the source.
New twist
It is not clear if this most recent screener is also tied to a festival. However, TIFF does not have the movie on its list, so we can exclude this option.
It is not a habit with us to cover all filter leaks in detail. However, given that the previous cover focused heavily on a possible source, the leaked âThe Card Counterâ adds a worthy twist.
TorrentFreak reached out to Focus Features, but the company did not immediately respond to our request for comment. If new information arrives, we will update this article accordingly.
