Elden Ring is a big game, so you’ll need a fast way to get around. Here’s how to get the in-game mount and gear through the Lands Between in no time.

The Elden Ring horse mount can be found quite early in the game. FromSoftware is actually quite generous with the basics this time around. To unlock Torrent, your trusty steed, all you need to do is activate Grace’s sites, which are the pyres of the Elden Ring. Unlocking enough sites will trigger a cutscene where a young girl will give you the Spectral Steed Whistle item.
The fastest way to unlock these sites is to simply follow the road north. I visited five Grace sites before I got the whistle.
1. Unlock the first burial site at the Stranded Cemetery, which is the starting area
2. Starting from the stranded cemetery, I headed slightly north to the first stage
3. Then I went north, northwest to the Church of Elleh (one of the pivot points at the beginning)
4. Continuing north to Groveside Cave (guarded by two soldiers by a fire)
5. Eventually I ended up at Gatefront Ruins to the north-northeast. You have two options when you get here: activate Grace’s site immediately and unlock Torrent, or conquer the ruins, collect nearby loot, then activate the site.
Either way, you need to unlock Torrent and zoom the Lands Between in style.
