We don’t advise anyone who hasn’t seen Drishyam 1 to watch Drishyam 2. In all seriousness, it’s a continuation. Screenshots of the opening titles of the 2015 film Drishyam that cover 70mm clearly show this. While creepy rumors from the past surround Vijay Salgaonkar and his family, we soon get a glimpse of their relatively decent new existence.

People never forget the drama, and that’s what the film shows. With the help of his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) and daughters Anju and Anu (Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav), Vijay and the Salgaonkar family seek to move beyond their past and start a new life. However, they do not realize that they are far from

Self-proclaimed film critic and Overseas Censor Board member Umair Sandhu took to Twitter and shared his review of Drishyam 2 with his followers. He described Drishyam 2 as a “smart and spectacular” thriller drama in which Ajay Devgn took center stage. He gave the film a rating of three and a half stars out of five. He wrote, “First review #Drishyam2! It’s a smart and awe-inspiring thriller drama with a shocking climax and gripping performances like USP. @ajaydevgn stole the show all the way.”

Unfortunately, the movie was released on some nauseating Torrent sites like Tamilrockers, Telegram, and Movierulz just hours after the movie was released in theaters. The movie is also available for downloads in 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p, 240p, HD. However, some fake links are circulating on the internet disguised as full movie, which contain viruses and other malware. That’s why we suggest our readers not to download the movie from any source they come across online. If you don’t want to watch Drishyam 2 in theaters, you can wait for it to arrive on the OTT platform. Also Read: Drishyam 2 Movie Review: Is Ajay Devgn’s Movie HIT or FLOP?

The operator of popular sports streaming site Rojadirecta is personally liable for copyright infringement, the Spanish Supreme Court has ruled. Rojadirecta is already banned in Spain and with this verdict in hand, sports rights holder Mediapro will seek hundreds of millions of euros in damages.

Founded over 16 years ago, Rojadirecta is one of the oldest and most popular linking sites for streaming sports events.

Operated by Spanish company Puerto 80 Projects, Rojadirecta has built a loyal user base while simultaneously waging numerous legal battles.

The Spanish streaming site challenged a domain seizure by the US government and ultimately prevailed. There have been legal victories on the ground too, but in recent years the tide has turned.

Rojadirecta and operator Igor Seoane suffered a series of setbacks. The site is currently blocked in several countries around the world while Seoane faces a criminal prosecution that could ultimately lead to a prison sentence.

Mediapro versus Rojadirecta

Rights holders are emboldened by these developments and the many ongoing victories. In 2016, the Commercial Court of La Coruña ruled that Rojadirecta must stop connecting to unauthorized streams of football events. The order follows a complaint from sports rights holder Grup Mediapro.

rojadirecta

Faced with the order, Rojadirecta finally closed its doors to Spanish visitors. The site operator appealed the verdict but lost again in 2018. A follow-up petition to the Supreme Court asking for a hearing was also denied.

Mediapro wants more

Mediapro was also not entirely happy with the appeal decision. The lower court ruling held Rojadirecta’s parent company, Puerto 80, liable for copyright infringement, but not its operator. Mediapro asked the Supreme Court to correct this, which it eventually did.

In a recent order, the Supreme Court ruled that Igor Seoane, who is Puerto 80’s sole shareholder, is indeed personally liable for copyright infringements committed through Rojadirecta.

“The Supreme Court has rectified this decision and holds Igor Seoane responsible for the illegal activities carried out by the Rojadirecta site,” reports Mediapro, adding that it will seek millions of euros in damages.

“At the same time, Mediapro filed a claim for damages against Puerto 80 for an amount of 354 million euros. In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, Mediapro will also seek damages from Igor Seoane. »

Sole owner and operator

Details on the decision are scarce, but according to Spanish news outlet IUSPORT, which has access to legal documents, the Supreme Court found Puerto 80 had no other employees. Seoane is the only operator.

The site would bring in between one and two million euros per year in advertising revenue, of which the operator would be the main beneficiary. We have not been able to independently verify these findings, but they will likely be repeated in follow-up proceedings, including the criminal trial.

TorrentFreak reached out to Seoane for a comment on the Supreme Court ruling, but we received no immediate response.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The effort to legalize sports betting in California has met with a typical challenge for competing ballot measures, each beaten in a torrent of negative publicity that doomed both to spectacular failure in the most expensive ballot race in US history.

Whenever voters are faced with two conflicting measures, they tend to reject both, said Professor David McCuan, chair of the political science department at Sonoma State University.

“Anytime we have dueling voting metrics and competitors have an arsenal of dollars…competitors will go nuclear. And in a nuclear war everyone loses,” McCuan said. “The most powerful money in California politics is on the ‘no’ side of ballot measures.”

The result was a sticking out at the polls for both.

With 5.3 million votes counted on Wednesday, more than 80% of voters rejected a gambling industry effort that would have allowed online and telephone betting on sports. A measure backed by Native American tribes that would have allowed gamblers to place sports bets at tribal casinos and four racetracks was opposed by 70% of voters.

But Tuesday’s election result is not a doomsday scenario for sports betting in California. With what could be a billion-dollar market in the nation’s most populous state, there’s just too much at stake for fans to give up.

More than 30 other states now allow sports betting, but Californians are limited to slots, poker and other games at Native American casinos, and wagering at racetracks, card rooms and the American lottery. State.

Proponents of the two measures would not discuss specifics, but said they were reassessing how to move forward to bring sports betting to the Golden State.

Jacob Mejia, vice president of public affairs at Pechanga, which owns one of the largest casinos, said it was too early to tell whether tribal gaming interests would try to work with the Legislative Assembly or go to again directly to voters.

“First of all, we all have to respect the will of the voters and the message they sent last night,” Mejia said.

The online betting campaign released a statement saying it remains committed to growing sports betting in California.

“This campaign underscored our determination to see California follow more than half the country in legalizing safe and responsible online sports betting,” the Yes on 27 campaign said. safe, responsible, regulated and taxed online sports betting, and we are determined to make it work here.”

Returning to the Legislature to find a solution would require powerful tribes to sit down with their smaller peers, off-track betting operations, as well as haters who operate card rooms and those who want to expand betting to devices. mobile, McCuan said.

“The tribes have so much money and so many resources that they believe they could take their toys and go home,” McCuan said. “It posed some problems in finding a legislative solution.”

The origin of what has become such a negative campaign with voters inundated with television ads at sporting events, on social media and in direct mail, began after the failure of several legislative efforts to allow sports betting to Sacramento.

The California tribes planned to launch an election campaign in 2020, but had to put that plan on hold when the pandemic prevented collecting the signatures needed to get it on the ballot.

Their measure – Proposition 26 – qualified for the ballot this year, but they quickly shifted priorities to defeat Proposition 27 – the competing measure proposed by online gambling proponents.

“The tribes saw this as the biggest threat to their self-sufficiency in a generation,” Mejia said. “These out-of-state operators tried to pass off Prop. 27 as a tribal solution for homelessness, when in fact it was neither.”

The attack ads said Proposition 27 would turn every cellphone, laptop and tablet into a gambling device. They said it could not be adequately monitored to prevent children from betting and raised fears of the creation of a generation of drug addicts.

Opponents of Proposition 26, led mostly by cardrooms who stood to lose any type of sports betting, said the measure would increase the power of wealthy tribes and give them a virtual monopoly on gambling in the state. . The measure would also have allowed casinos to offer roulette and craps.

Both measures promised to bring benefits to the state through tax revenue. Proponents of Proposition 27 have touted funds that would go to help the homeless, the mentally ill and poorer tribes excluded from the casino windfall. Proponents of Proposition 26 said a 10% tax would fund enforcement of gambling laws and support programs to help drug addicts.

Of the approximately $460 million raised for and against the two measures, around $170 million was intended to support the online sports gambling initiative backed by DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel – the latter of which is the official odds provider for the ‘Associated Press – as well as other national sports betting operators and some tribes.

A coalition of tribes behind the No of 27 committee raised $116 million for their defeat. Of the $128 million raised by the Yes on 26, No on 27 committee of tribal groups, Mejia said his spending was primarily to defeat the measure online and the group did not air a single TV commercial in support. his own initiative.

Two groups funded primarily by cardrooms have raised $44 million to attack Proposition 26.

Massive fundraising more than doubles previous record in 2020 that helped Uber, Lyft and other app-based ride-hailing and delivery services prevent drivers from becoming employees eligible for benefits and protection employment.

With an explosion of political advertising, voters often end up being put off, McCuan said.

“What California voters object to is the vulgarity of having campaign ads thrown at every turn,” he said. “It has this backlash effect.”

A man from Denmark has been convicted for playing a key role at Asgaard, a private torrent site that shut down in 2020 following intense legal pressure. As well as co-founding Asgaard, the 47-year-old was associated with NordicBits, DanishBits and ShareUniversity. His criminal conviction marks the fifth of this investigation, the fate of two other men remaining to be decided.

Large public torrent sites, such as The Pirate Bay, RARBG, and YTS, attract massive international audiences. By focusing on a specific niche, smaller torrent sites can also generate significant traction.

Some sites focus on a particular type of music, for example, while others may focus on movie genres such as horror or anime. Since most torrent sites typically offer content in English, private torrent sites aimed at speakers of a particular language can be hugely successful, which is especially true for those that appeal to Scandinavian users.

Copyright holders operating in Denmark, where only six million people speak Danish, view private torrent sites as unfair competition in what is already a relatively small market. So, in partnership with their colleagues from the Danish anti-piracy group Rights Alliance, it was decided to permanently shut down all local torrent sites.

Extraction of sites at the root

With the support of the Danish government’s IP SØIK working group, Rights Alliance took down DanishBits and NordicBits, two highly reputable sites that extend far beyond Scandinavia.

Deleting these sites sent a clear deterrent message, but instead of shutting down, private tracker Asgaard welcomed new members, many from the closed sites. A few weeks later, the previously emboldened Asgaard announced that it would also close, mainly to avoid staff being arrested.

The Danish police did not receive the memo and over the following months seven people were arrested. As of March 2022, four prosecutions have resulted in criminal convictions.

– Male, 50 years old: 4 months in prison, 3 suspended (June 2021)
– Male, 43 years old: 3 months in prison (suspended) plus community service (February 2022)
– Male, 54: 3 months in prison (suspended) plus community service (March 2022)
– Male, 35: 3 months in prison (suspended) plus community service (March 2022)

asgaard leaders-eng

As the image above shows, earlier this year three of the seven had yet to face court. Following a process last week, there are only two left.

Fifth criminal conviction

On November 3, 2022, at the Aarhus courthouse in Denmark, a 47-year-old man became the fifth Asgaard member to be sentenced since its closure in late 2020. He is said to have co-founded Asgaard in May 2019, with Rights Alliance describing him as one of the brains of the site.

In addition to purchasing Asgaard’s domain name, asgrd.org, he helped cover costs, make decisions related to its operations, and also acted as “press officer”. Rights Alliance reports that between 2015 and 2020 he was also associated with DanishBits and ShareUniversity.

“The penalty is 3 months probation and 80 hours of community service, forfeiture of 2,282 DKK [US$305.00), a desktop PC and two external hard drives, and compensation to the Rights Alliance of DKK 35,000 [US$4,670]“says Rights Alliance.

“During the time of the crime, Asgaard had 23,000 users and provided access to at least 15,000 files containing copyrighted works, many of which were shared before their digital premiere.”

And then there were two

After sentencing last week, only two of the original seven suspects have yet to appear in court. An updated graphic from Rights Alliance indicates that an Asgaard moderator and another person have yet to close their deals.

Asgaard - five out of seven

Rights Alliance director Maria Fredenslund says the convictions are the result of hard work to take down all Denmark-based file-sharing sites.

“It is extremely satisfying to see that the masterminds are now – one by one – condemned for their criminal enterprise. We are dealing with a number of funders who were not only systematic in their violations of the rights of Rights Alliance members, but also well organized,” Fredenslund says.

“They were dynamic, in the sense that if one service was closed, they continued their illegal activities on another. Every sentence in this vast affair emphasizes that despite the masterminds’ dynamic organization and methods, they will be arrested and held accountable for their violation. »

According to Jan Østergaard, special prosecutor at the National Special Crimes Unit (NSK), the conviction sends a message to operators and users of the site.

“It is very satisfying that, based on a solid and focused effort, NSK has brought another mastermind to account,” Østergaard said.

“This sends a clear signal to both Danish hacker masterminds and users that the focus is on this type of crime.”

NSK was established on January 1, 2022. Among other things, NSK aims to fight complex organized crime and financial crime.

[UPDATE] The Basic with Ads tier is finally live on Netflix, and you can go ahead and subscribe to it if you want. At the time of writing, the new plan is available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico and Spain , you only have to pay $6.99 for it. Unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t shared any information on whether this plan will be available in other regions, but we’ll be sure to update you if that happens.

Netflix Basic with ads: everything you need to know

Let’s be obvious. If you want a Netflix Basics plan with ads, you should be prepared to spend $6.99 per month in the US. However, for those wondering about other regions, you will get the same plan in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the UK.

Netflix has also confirmed that current plans and members will not be affected in any way. The new tier will only supplement the existing Basic, Standard, and Premium plans.

Now, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Netflix also said that if you opt for the Basic with Ads plan, there will be some differences you’ll encounter.

First, you’ll still be able to access a variety of TV shows, movies, and personalized viewing experiences. However, with the new Netflix plan, the video quality will be up to 720/HD, and you will get an average of 4-5 ads per hour. Simply put, Basic with Ads is everything people enjoyed on Netflix, but for less. The company mentioned that it was an attempt to reach a diverse audience, including younger viewers who are moving away from linear TV.

Additionally, Netflix shed some light on some ads and how they work.

  • ad format: At launch, ads will be 15 or 30 seconds long and will run before and during shows and movies.
  • Advertiser controlsTo help advertisers reach the right audience (and ensure our ads are more relevant to consumers), we offer extensive country and genre targeting features (e.g. action, drama, romance, sci-fi, etc.). Advertisers will also be able to prevent their ads from showing on content that may be inconsistent with their brand (eg, sex, nudity or graphic violence).
  • Verification tools: We have partnerships with DoubleVerify and Integral advertising science to verify the visibility and validity of our advertising traffic from the first quarter of 2023.
  • Audience measurement: To help advertisers understand how Netflix can reach their target audience, Nielsen will use its Digital Ad Ratings (DAR) in the United States. This will be available sometime in 2023 and will eventually be flagged via Nielsen ONE Ads.

As previously reported, the new Netflix plan is going to launch in a total of 12 countries and will be available on November 3, 2022, for just $6.99. You can find out more here.

A cyberattack in February against Australian Clinical Labs (ACL) led to patient data being made available on the dark web, and the security community is wondering why it took the company nearly a year to do so. public disclosure.

The company reportedly detected the attack shortly after it happened and was contacted by government authorities in March, and was also informed in June that some of the patient data had been found available for sale on the dark web. At least 223,000 records were seized in the breach, but apparently only a fraction of them were made available in this way. About 10% of the records contained medical or payment information, but more than half contained health insurance numbers.

Patient data theft notification comes eight months late and five months after the information went on sale

The ACL breach stems from Medlab, a subsidiary that provides pathology services and has been a major source of Covid-19 testing in the country. About 17,500 of the leaked records contained patient data associated with a pathology test. About 28,000 contained a credit card number, but just over half of them expired and only about 3,300 had a CVV attached. About 128,000 also had health insurance numbers associated with a person’s name, but these were line entries in a database, not scans of the full card. Various other internal business documents, including financial reports and contracts, were also reportedly made available via the dark web.

ACL released a statement saying there is “no evidence” of misuse of leaked patient data, but the fact that some records were found listed on dark websites would seem to contradict that claim. The company said it was contacting affected customers by phone and email, and a crisis hotline had been set up for those who confirmed their patient data had been leaked.

ACL also said it first learned of the attack in February, but an initial internal investigation found no data theft. The company was then contacted by the Australian Cyber Security Center (ACSC) in March due to indications that there had been a ransomware incident. The ACSC followed up in June to let the ACL know that patient data had been spotted on the dark web.

Medlab says the delay in reporting the incident was due to a lengthy analysis of patient data on the dark web, which took several months. The company said it did not want to cause “undue alarm and concern” to Medlab patients. However, cybersecurity experts question this decision, especially since it was revealed more recently that the data of all Medlab patients may have been exposed and that the Quantum ransomware gang (known to specifically focus on health care companies) is the author.

Dark web sales add to torrent of Australian personal information stolen in last month

ACL’s argument against violating compliance rules rests on the language used in the Privacy Act, the dated legislation that governs most data handling and privacy issues (and is currently under review with a major update expected in the coming months).

The company refers to the law’s requirement that notification be made in cases “likely to cause serious harm”. The Australian government was not officially informed until July, shortly after the ACC informed the ACL that patient data had been found on the dark web. The company’s apparent tactic is to pretend to ignore the exfiltration of patient data based on its own internal investigation conducted shortly after the breach.

The moment when ACL benefits from the “grandfather” under current conditions is therefore a chance for the company; the current maximum penalty is just $2.2 million, and the onus would be on the Federal Court prosecution to prove that “serious harm” was inflicted in some way if they took regulatory measures. Lawmakers have already proposed to increase privacy law fines to $50 million or 30% of turnover, and this case has also sparked discussions about changing the terms to impose the charge. to prove that no damage has been caused to the persons concerned by the company.

The ACL incident follows several other high-profile incidents in Australia dating back to around a month ago. Although it may not appear to be a coordinated campaign, the wave of thefts of sensitive information from millions of Australians has brought cybersecurity and data processing regulation to the forefront of the national conversation.

Ken Jenkins, vice president of cybersecurity and resiliency services at SecurityScorecard, views this cluster of attacks and impending privacy law changes as a wake-up call for anyone doing business in the country. , but especially for those dealing with extremely sensitive items such as patient data. “Recent cyberattacks in Australia have highlighted the need for significant changes to cybersecurity processes across the country. The cyberattack on Australia’s clinical labs comes shortly after the attack on the country’s largest telecommunications network, Optus, and a day after Medibank announced that its breach exposed the personal data of all of its customers. The cost of cyberattacks is the highest in the healthcare industry, as personally identifiable information (PII) can be sold for high prices on the dark web, putting patient safety at risk. Cybersecurity challenges in the healthcare industry are increasing as the sector becomes increasingly reliant on technology to perform day-to-day operations. Understanding these challenges can help protect healthcare organizations against current and future threats. Healthcare organizations need to take steps to improve their eHealth. This includes monitoring large vendor and IoT ecosystems. Healthcare organizations can quickly identify risks and prioritize remediation activities when they have a complete view of their IT infrastructure.

ACL reportedly detected the #cyberattack shortly after it happened and was contacted by government authorities in March, and was also told in June that some of the #patient data was available for sale on the #darkweb . #cybersecurity #respectdataClick to tweet

“While staying compliant is important, it can’t be the only step in an organization’s security strategy. Compliance includes policy, procedures, plans, and implementation, but does not necessarily include measuring and managing the effectiveness of controls and security posture. With the lack of personnel and resources caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that organizations proactively and continuously assess security controls via a trusted third party. In addition, security teams must participate in exercises tabletop and threat emulation to ensure they are familiar with countering and responding to threat actors,” Jenkins recommended.

A small retail company in North Africa, a North American telecommunications provider and two separate religious organizations: what do they have in common? They all use misconfigured Microsoft servers that for months or years have sprayed the Internet with gigabytes per second of unwanted data in distributed denial-of-service attacks designed to disrupt or completely take down websites and services.

In total, a recently published study by Black Lotus Labs, the research arm of networking and application technology company Lumen, identified more than 12,000 servers (all running Microsoft domain controllers hosting Active Corporate Directory) that were regularly used to increase the size of distributed networks. – denial of service or DDoS attacks.

An endless arms race

For decades, DDoSers have fought with Defenders in an endless arms race. At first, DDoSers simply bundled ever-increasing numbers of internet-connected devices into botnets, then used them to simultaneously send a target more data than it could handle. Targets – be they games, new sites, or even crucial pillars of internet infrastructure – have often caved under the pressure and either crumbled completely or slowed to a trickle.

Companies like Lumen, Netscout, Cloudflare, and Akamai then fought back with defenses that filtered out unwanted traffic, allowing their customers to resist torrenting. The DDoSers responded by deploying new types of attacks that temporarily blocked these defenses. The race continues to be played.

One of the primary methods used by DDoSers to gain the upper hand is known as reflection. Rather than directly sending the torrent of unwanted traffic to the target, DDoSers send network requests to one or more third parties. By picking third parties with known misconfigurations in their networks and spoofing requests to look like they were sent by the target, third parties end up mirroring the data back to the target, often in sizes that are tens, hundreds, or even thousands of times larger than the original payload.

Some of the more well-known reflectors are misconfigured servers running services such as open DNS resolvers, Network Time Protocol, Memcached for database caching, and the WS-Discovery protocol found in Internet devices on the Internet. objects. Also known as amplification attacks, these reflection techniques allow record DDoS to be delivered by the smallest of botnets.

When Domain Controllers Attack

Over the past year, a growing source of reflection attacks has been the lightweight connectionless directory access protocol. Microsoft’s derivation of the standard Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, CLDAP uses User Datagram Protocol packets so that Windows clients can discover services to authenticate users.

“Many versions of MS Server still in use have a CLDAP service enabled by default,” Black Lotus Labs researcher Chad Davis wrote in an email. “When these domain controllers are not exposed to the open Internet (which is true for the vast majority of deployments), this UDP service is harmless. But on the open Internet, all UDP services are vulnerable to reflection .

DDoSers have been using the protocol since at least 2017 to multiply data torrents by a factor of 56 to 70, making it one of the most powerful reflectors available. When the CLDAP reflection was first discovered, the number of servers exposing the service to the internet numbered in the tens of thousands. After gaining public attention, the number plummeted. Since 2020, however, the number has increased again, peaking at 60% in the last 12 months alone, according to Black Lotus Labs.

BSP Chairman Mayawati on Saturday alleged that the RSS was raising issues related to religious conversion and population policy to divert people’s attention from the failures of the BJP government at the Center.

She also said that the “silence” of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on the current situation in the country is damaging.

“The divisive voice that the RSS is now raising on the new population policy and religious conversion to divert the attention of the people of the country under the curse of massive inflation, unemployment, violence and disorder is quite This is a planned plot to distract from the failures of the BJP government,” the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh told a one-day convention of officials. his party’s state unit here.

“In fact, this RSS campaign is being picked up ahead of the upcoming (2024) Lok Sabha polls as part of a plot to support BJP and its government and it is very important to let people know about it,” said Mayawati. said in a statement issued by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

She said it is ironic that the RSS backs the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in every election with “closed eyes”, but “never openly opposes the misguided and anti-people policies of its government”.

“His silence on the prevailing atmosphere in the country is not only sad but also harmful,” the BSP chief said.

His comments came on the heels of RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale saying that religious conversions and illegal migration from Bangladesh are causing a “demographic imbalance” in the country.

Speaking to reporters after a four-day meeting of the Indian RSS working committee in Prayagraj on Wednesday, Hosabale said the organization was trying to raise awareness about the conversions. He also said existing laws to prevent religious conversion must be strictly enforced.

Mayawati, who gave the necessary directives to the BSP leaders for the upcoming local polls, also asked them to work with dedication and honesty to strengthen the party’s support base among the “sarv samaj” so that it appears as the fair and valid alternative to the BJP. .

“As things stand, people are sad because their experience of empowering the BJP for ‘achhe din’ (good days) was not good in any way,” she said, adding that ‘Instead of paying attention to development and public welfare, saffron-led governments seem to be spending their time and resources on anti-poor activities and mere rhetoric.

Hitting the government of Uttar Pradesh, she said the law and order situation in the state is deplorable, there is no rule of law and government authoritarianism continues.

Calling on BSP workers to make people understand that they will get justice and their problems will only be solved when their own government comes to power in the state, Mayawati said small cadre meetings should be held in accordance with traditions. party.

“There is no need for the BSP to follow other parties that support the rich and their royal styles, which looks like poking fun at unemployed youth and the middle class,” she added.

The BSP supremo also asked her partygoers to celebrate her birthday on January 15 as “Jan Kalyankari Diwas” with simplicity, sincerity and helping the poor.

Major labels are turning to AI-based music ripping and mixing tools popping up online.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has submitted its latest overview of Notorious Markets to the US Trade Representative. Most of the well-known culprits are present, from torrenting to cyberlockers. A new addition in this report is that “AI-based” music mixers and rippers are ones to watch as an emerging threat to the industry.

“There are online services which, allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI), extract or rather copy the vocals, instrumentals or part of the instrumentals from a sound recording, and/or generate, master or remix a recording to be very similar or nearly as good as benchmark tracks from selected, well-known sound recording artists,” reads the RIAA report.

“To the extent that these services, or their partners, train their AI models using our members’ music, such use is unauthorized and infringes our members’ rights by making unauthorized copies of our members’ works” , continues the RIAA. Indeed, an AI learning model needs copies of the original works to serve as a training model.

“In any event, the files these services stream are either unauthorized copies or unauthorized derivative works of our members’ music,” the RIAA report continues.

Some of the AI-based extractors and mixers referenced in the RIAA report include:

  • acapella-extractor.com
  • remove-vocals.com
  • songmaster.com

TorrentFreak contacted the owner of Songmastr and Acapella-Extractor to ask if he had received any complaints from the RIAA. According to them, the music group has not contacted them with any complaints regarding either service. According to them, Songmastr has received only about 200 hits per day for the past year.

The RIAA still lists several popular torrent sites, YouTube stream rippers, cyberlockers, and music download sites as avenues to look at. The addition of AI-based tools will be interesting over the next few years. AI-based visual art is already creating a few interesting situations in matters of copyright.
